REACTORS

DETUNED REACTOR

A detuned reactor is a three-phase inductor connected in series with power factor correction (PFC) capacitors to prevent the amplification of harmonic currents and protect the capacitor bank from resonance.

BENEFITS OF USING “AMAR” REACTORS:

Extends Capacitor Life: Reduces the thermal and electrical stress caused by overcurrent’s.

Reduce harmonics in electrical systems

Avoid over heating of cables of transformers

Avoid over currents during switching of capacitor banks

Our products meet customer specifications and satisfy their needs and expectations. We give special emphasis to quality we achieve this through active involvement of all our employees to maintain effective work for continual improvement

Prevents Nuisance Tripping: Stops sensitive protective devices (like circuit breakers) from tripping due to harmonic distortion.

Reduces Heat: Lowers the operating temperature of cables and transformers by mitigating harmonic current flow.

Inrush Protection: Safeguards switchgear by limiting the high current surge that occurs when a capacitor bank is first turned on.

Shunt Reactor

A shunt reactor is an electrical device used in high-voltage power systems to absorb reactive power and stabilize voltage, especially in long transmission lines. A shunt reactor is primarily used to compensate for capacitive reactive power generated by long underground cables or overhead transmission lines. When transmission lines operate under light load, their line capacitance produces surplus reactive power, which can raise the system voltage beyond desired levels. Shunt reactors absorb this excess, helping to maintain voltage within safe operating limits and improve system stability.

Features

Maintain voltage stability under light-load conditions.

Reduce corona losses and overvoltage stress on insulation.

Improve overall system reliability and operational safety.

Operational Considerations

The reactive power rating of a shunt reactor must match the surplus reactive power of the line.

Overcompensation can lead to voltage drop; undercompensation may not fully mitigate overvoltage.

Shunt reactors are often coordinated with series capacitors and static VAR compensators for optimal reactive power management.

In summary, a shunt reactor is a vital component in modern electrical transmission systems to absorb excess reactive power, ensure voltage regulation, and enhance the stability and efficiency of power delivery.
